EBBS 64 v3.3 NOTES: 870728 - Ep Here's a list of bug fixes: 1) HOPEFULLY fixed the "File Exists" bug that was not allowing uploads. (tested okay for me but I added a disk initialization prior to the FILE EXISTS check.) 2) Modified the PAUSE, ABORT and NEXT MESSAGE characters. The following are now acceptable: a) To ABORT : a, A, SPACE or CTRL-C b) To PAUSE : s, S, * or CTRL-S - (any key will resume) c) To SKIP : n, N, RETURN or CTRL-X 3) Changed all occurances of sending "ui" to reset the disk drive to "i0"'s. 4) Fixed a bug that didn't allow email to reside on a disk drive other than device 8. 5) For Hayes/Hayes compatible modem owners: Added a ATH0 at the logoff text so that the modems would go "Off Hook". (Set mt in config module to 2 or 4.) 6) Changed the UN AUTO-PAUSE key to RETURN only. (line garbage would often continue for the caller!) 7) Made slight mods to the CONFIG module which should assist would be EBBS Sysops to configure their modems more readily. Please let me know of ANY bugs, problems etc. ESPECIALLY let me know if the UL FILE EXISTS bug has been fixed. (I have never been able to duplicate this bug on my 128/1571 system.) If you are running EBBS 64 for longer than two weeks then please register. This software was not intended to be FREE software, but FREEWARE. This means you are allowed to run it, play with it etc. and if you use it to run a BBS then you are obligated to pay/register for EBBS. (When is the last time you worked for free?) I have also been in receipt (from anonymous users of Corewars or voice callers) of MANY numbers of pirated EBBS systems up and running. Since the recent onslaught of these calls I have decided to consult with a Lawyer and from now on will take legal action against any Sysops running Pirated EBBS software. (if the software is not as released into FREEWARE it will be considered Pirated.) I would like to thank all the registered EBBS sysops, those that have complimented the software and those that have turned in Pirate EBBS systems. Your loyality and support is greatly appreciated and cherished. Ep EBBS 64 v3.2 NOTES: 870610 - Ep Here's a list of bug fixes: 1) Fixed the "File Exists" bug that was not allowing uploads. 2) Fixed the INSERT line bug in the editor. 3) Changed drive 8 initializing from "ui" to "i0" so SFD's can be used as the system files drive. (Drive 8). Registered EBBS 64 Sysops can easily update to EBBS 64 v3.2 using the "v3.2 patch" program. (On Corewars, GEnie, Riverboat Adventure, etc.) Ep EBBS 64 v3.1 NOTES: 870530 - Ep Here's a list of mods/changes and bug fixes: 1) Message Base leveling bug has been fixed. 2) Auto pause bug in message base has been fixed. 3) The 64 filemaker DL ctrl file bug has been fixed. a) If file's 26 - 35 do not work properly then manually DELETE each file in each xfer section via the DL editor. The 64 v3.0 filemaker has a bug that does not create files 26 thru 35 correctly. 4) Text editor INSert bug has been fixed. 5) Message base delete bug has been fixed. 6) Empty userfile at logon bug has been fixed. 7) Hardcopy has been added to 64 filemaker Sysop Menu creator. a) Add this into your Sysop Menu (sm) via LOAD/EDIT. 8) If your main menu has "O" Online time as an option use load and edit to remove it. This feature has been removed. Registered Sysops can easily update to EBBS 64 v3.1 using the "v3.1 patch" program. (On Corewars, etc.). Ep - 870530 EBBS 64 v3.0 written by and copyrighted by Ed Parry (c) 1987 EBBS 64 HELP Notes Update : 870518 PRELIMINARY MOTES: EBBS 64 is freeware in COMPILED form. This means you may pass it around to your friends, share it with networks, and/or put it up on your own BBS system. EBBS 64 BASIC source code, ML source code, documentation and EBBS Sysop Registration is $40. This grants you the opportunity to update for free as long as you send return postage, a disk and a disk mailer. You can also simply send $5 for an update disk or DL the upgrades from Fred Bennett's Corewars EBBS listed below (DL 5 is strictly for registered EBBS Sysops!). Donations are also welcome but not really expected. Is appears that freeware for C64/C128 users does not work well (or at all). Also included on the EBBS 64 disk is some public domain (and/or) freeware programs. Canoga Park 888-3221 Sysop : G.Jones/Lonnie De Cloedt Open Mind Reseda 342-4601 Sysop : Bill Greenland. GETTING EBBS 64 v3.0 SET-UP: 1) Run the program called "64 filemaker". (Creates system files disk) 2) Run the program called "64 config". (Creates YOUR config file) 3) Run "c/v3.0". This is the EBBS main program. 4) Post first message in EACH message base to avoid a crash. 5) Set up text files, system files, bulletins, etc. 6) Go online and experiment to become familiar w/EBBS commands/features. NOTES: Function Key Defs: (Work at most prompts and text input.) F1 = Chat on (Sysop Online) F2 = Chat off (Sysop Offline) F5 = Sysop Menu F8 = ReRUN/Reset EBBS. Hangs up modem on RS232 modems. I request that you put "Written by Ed Parry" in the 'id' file". EBBS will "tell you" what SEQ (text) file it is looking for if the file isn't found. I recommend using ARC by Chris Smeets to combine/crunch UL/DL files to save transfer disk space. (I'm a BIG ARC fan and friend of Chris Smeets.) Also, LYNX is a good non-standard/fast file combining program by Will Corley that can make xfers go much easier. (64/1541 only). I am not familiar with CBM 1660 modems nor Anchor Automations 64xx modems and therefore have not included preset configs for them. (Nor have I come across any that will work.) MISC. Modem Notes: The modem routines may require some playing with the "ok" variable. Values that seem to work best in the past are 6, 38 & 199 for ADC's (RS232) and 32 for 1650/1670's. Other's will require some tinkering. I suggest after a Sysop online session you reset your modem (if possible). 1670's might work more tolerably if you first jump online via the Sysop RETURN method, enter chat (F1) and type "ATM0" on a blank line to disable the modem speaker and then "ATQ1" to "quiet" the response codes. This should avoid any connect baud rate problems. Be SURE to RE-RUN the v3.0 config module or a crash WILL occur. v3.0 UPGRADE NOTES/MODS and DIFFERANCES: 1) 5 message bases. 2) 5 DL sections of 35 files. 3) Xmodem has been succesfully added! 4) Xfer log to DATE (YYMMDD) files. (Military format). Delete as desired. 5) Added an ONLINE staus line w/user name and level. 6) Email will be saved if carrier is lost/dropped. 7) Each xfer section can use seperate host drives. 8) All support ML now should be compatible with hard drives! 9) Added in LOCAL color ONLY. (Instead of MONO emulation.) A) Acceptable drive numbers are now 8-15 vice 8-11. B) Users can now delete their OWN posted messages. C) Levels have been drastically enhanced! (0-32767) D) Added in a LEVEL calculator to the userfile editor! 1) To calculate a users level enter an * as the level. 2) To display current level enter a ? as the level. E) UL update xfer file bug has been fixed. F) Xmodem block routines have been added. G) DL list accesses field added. (Acc = number of DL's for this file.) H) The SFD upload bug has been fixed. (Remember to set date @ power up!) SPECIAL NOTES for v3.0: 1) I suggest starting from scratch. (sorry.) EBBS 64 v3.0 is so much differant that trying to upgrade without starting over would be very hard. (Still possible if you have the patience, but NOT recommended by me.) ACKNOWLEDGNMENTS: EBBS 64 is NOT the sole product of ME. I'd like to thank the following for their support (whether they realize they've helped or not): 1) My FAMILY for their patience, understanding and tolerance. 2) Ron Prawdzik : Original developer of the 1st MLS (Machine Language Support). (On EBBS 64.) 3) Steve Punter : Author of New Punter file transfer protcol which is the best CBM protocol I've ever used. 4) Ward Christensen : Original Author and creator of Xmodem file transfer protocol which is now considered the industry "standard". 5) David Myers : Developed and released the APPEND2 xmodem source code which I easily converted for use on the 128. (From PAL asm to Buddy asm format.) 6) Chris Miller : Buddy 64/128 author. I must say this is the BEST assembler I have ever used. I use it exclusively now and without it EBBS wouldn't have xmodem or the machine language support file. 7) Larry Goodwin, Charles Scott and Phreadster of Bennettdom. These people all have helped and supported me during my often grumpy program testing. Also Glen Jones, Millard Mier III, Dennis Bruner, G.G. Hughes, Bob Curtis and Lonnie De Cloedt for their support, ideas and help. 8) Those that given me ideas/helped with beta test periods for EBBS since December of 1984 (EBBS 64's conception) to present. 9) All the countless books and mags I've referenced during the onset of this obsessive hobby. 10) And finally to the authors of my favorite programs: ARC, Bobsterm/128 v2.0, Yellow Pages, Fast Hack 'Em, Paperclip 64/128, Buddy Assembler(s), Pal Assembler, Lynx, Abacus's basic 7.0 compiler, Jimiterm 4.3, Multiterm 128 3.1, Gnome Kit 128 4.1 (for editing EBBS basic code), Blitz 64, Sysres 64, Turbosave/128, Symbol Master 64/128, and a few others I'm sure I've forgotton. EBBS would NOT be possible without the use of these fine programs! Other original Ep software: EBBS 128 - C128 BBS program. DISKNOSER - 128/80 column sector editor. NERDCOPY - 128 2 drive multi-file copier. (Should work with all drives.) NOSECOPY - 128 Simple Single Drive/single file copier. 128 EXCHANGE - Mini Xfer BBS type program with Xmodem/New Punter. TYPEFILE 128 - My 1st Buddy program. Displays text files for reading. I welcome your comments and sincerly hope you enjoy using/running EBBS. Please feel free to contact me in any of the above mentioned ways. I am also interested in corresponding with other basic/ml programmers and hobbyist's. Thanx, Ep
